Sierra Nevada on annual hikes, focusing mainly on landscape photography. When I was seventeen I received my first real camera from my grandma, a Nikon FM2, and began to shoot the things I love; backpacking, fly-fishing, mountain biking, and the great outdoors.
In 1996 I left home to study at Northern Arizona University. In college, I broadened my interest in photography, from landscapes to portraiture and the integration of the two. I also learned the intricacies of studio, commercial and editorial photography. I now use this knowledge daily. I spent my final year at NAU on scholarship as the athletic department's staff photographer and graduated from NAU in 2001 with two degrees, one in Photography and one in Chemistry. I graduated magna cum laude from the honors department and was named the “Best Photographer" in my graduating class.
After graduating I moved to Tucson with my wife and worked for the University of Arizona's Athletic Department as their senior sports photographer. During this time I shot weddings and portraits on the side. After four years I decided to go out on my own and started my business Jacob Chinn Photography. I now focus on wedding and editorial photography, as well as senior portraits..
